Car Accessories And Gadgets

The majority of drivers love gadgets and accessories and the chances are that, if you have a car, you do as well. Drivers love accessories and gadgets from the humble dashboard compass or radio to the on board satellite navigation system and the sophisticated CD or even DVD player. They augment the pleasure that you derive from your driving experience and help turn your car into a replica of the comforts that you enjoy at home.

If you travel a lot, driving can become boring and so some accessories and gadgets are designed to alleviate that boredom although they should never distract the driver’s attention from the primary job in hand, which is getting safely from A to B. I have listed a couple of the most prevalent, non attention-diverting accessories and gadgets below so that you can see how many of them you already possess.

The number one, all-time favourite is the car radio, although this was long ago upgraded to the car CD , DVD or even MP3 player. Few drivers would be without their car stereo. The car stereo can be a very functional tool too, because you can set it so that, even if you are playing CD’s, the radio will cut in if there is a significant road traffic announcement that will or could affect you. This can be invaluable information, particularly if you do not have the next device.

The next most popular modern gadget is satellite navigation, often called sat nav or GPS, which stands for ‘global positioning service’. Sat nav can replace the radio announcement cut-ins and even go two steps further by suggesting an alternative route in order to circumvent the impediment and giving you directions how to do it.

An important piece of equipment that every driver must have in the boot is jump leads. Fan belts slacken, batteries short out, all kinds of items can happen, but if you want to get on the road again without delay, the best thing you can have if you have a flat battery is your own set of jump leads. It is no good depending on someone to stop and help you get your car started hoping that they will have jump leads. Get your own, they only cost a couple of dollars.

If you have children that are a pain in the backside on long journeys, why not get them an in-car entertainment system? Strapped or cut into the back of the front seats, the screens can display video games or films – a bit like airplane seats, but more so.

If you like to drive fast but are cheesed off with speed cameras, why not fit a speed camera detector? They are not that expensive and can be installed by yourself do-it-yourself. It could save you hundreds in fines and even your license.

In truth, there are far too many car accessories and gadgets to be listed here and I am sure that you could mention a dozen that I have left out, but the point is simply that car accessories and gadgets can enhance your driving experience and that is what it is all about at the end of the day.

Golfing for Beginners: Part 2

What to keep in your golf bag.

There are many golf bags available; some are designed for fashion, some for utility and some that combine both features. There are big bags, bigger bags and bags so big that they would keep everything I need for a long week-end vacation in one of the side pockets!

A basic, practical golf bag is one just large enough to hold your clubs (obviously), spare golf balls, tees, golf glove, pencils, keys, sunblock cream, ball markers, a ball retriever, an umbrella and a plastic raincoat.

You could also include other items that are handy when outdoors, such as tissues, a small first-aid kit or at least some plasters and some anti-insect spray.

A small pack of wipes can be just what you need too if it gets hot or you get covered with sand in one of the bunkers or you have to fish your ball out of a stream.

Other things that could come in useful are certain drugs: for instance, antihistamine, if you are allergic to wasp stings or medication to counteract an illness like diabetes (if you suffer from it, that is). It is vital to remember to replace these medicines before their expiry date though.

Please remember to turn off your mobile phone before you put it away as a courtesy to the other players. No one is going to be best pleased to hear your phone go off just as he is about to take a shot. It is part of golfing etiquette too. If you must use it, walk away from the teams.

If you have these items with you in your golf bag, you will be covered for most minor tribulations, like a bee sting, an ant bite, a blister or even a sudden downpour. If you know that you are well prepared, you will be able to relax that little bit more and enjoy your game that much more too.

Auto Detailing For Beauty And Protection

There are different degrees of auto detailing. The cheapest degree may include only washing the outside, like a car wash; the next degree may be doing the interior and the boot as well and the top degree might include the inside, outside and the engine.

Then there are degrees of cleanliness within these categories too. for example, the lowest degree might be to just vacuum the carpets, but the highest degree might include taking them out and actually washing them.

Needless to say the amount of auto detailing you get will (or should) be reflected in the cost. The lowest degree might be $75 and the highest degree $300 for an averagely dirty average car.

Larger and dirtier cars cost more. However, the car will be restored to its pristine condition if that is at all feasible, so a good detailing before selling your car might reap dividends.

It is not too hard to learn how to clean the exterior of a car well, but it is more of a problem to do the inside because you will require specialist tools and small vacuum cleaner heads to get into all the nooks and crannies.

You may also want to wash the carpets without removing them which can be a royal pain, if you do not have that special apparatus.

You can definitely purchase the waxes, polishes, vinyl and leather cleaners and you can even purchase the apparatus, it is merely that you may find it costly to purchase and time-consuming to use.

Cleaning the engine is more or less just a matter of blasting the grease off the engine with a fairly weak pressure gun using degreaser in the (warm) water, so this requires more specialist equipment.

The brushes and sponges are all fairly normal as are the liquids and detergents, polishes and waxes.

Some auto detailing firms will also take care of small repairs like a stitch that has come loose in the upholstery or a slight scratch on the coachwork.

However, I think that all companies ought to at least bring these defects to the owner’s attention even if repair is not in the price. Repairing a minor scratch on a wing can save that wing from having to be replaced in the future. Similarly with tyres, if an operative notices a problem and reports it, it could save a puncture.

Waxing is an central topic. I think that there should be a wax included in the shampoo, because it will run into all the joints and form a seal against rainwater. I am all for applying a second coat of wax by hand to the larger areas as well both for protection and appearance.

Do not bother applying a cheap wax by hand, because it will come off after a couple of rain showers. If you are going to do the job, do it properly using a high quality wax that will protect your paintwork from the sun’s bleaching rays, from the abrasion of wind-blown dust and from the oxidizing rain.

Effective Methods To Start Blogging

Everybody has something to say and most people are passionate about something that they would like to talk about. Individuals want to take this desire to talk a few stages further – they want to tell the world about it. That was impossible less that twenty years ago, unless you managed to be on TV or were syndicated in the world’s press. Now, obviously, anyone can do it.

The Net makes it possible for everybody to have their say. The young and the old, the rich and the poor can discuss what they like on the Internet. You can use a website as your soap box or you could use a specialized web site known as a blog. If you cannot have your own web site for any reason, you could open a free blog at one of the numerous web sites that offer free blogs.

The word ‘blog’ is short for ‘web log’ and adding an article to your blog is called blogging. Blogs have become a very effective way of spreading one’s point of view. The latest kind of blogging is micro-blogging, which is the generic description for Twitter.

Blogging has been used effectively by inhabitants of countries where the provision of human rights is not a government priority. Just recently, dissidents in Iran, Iraq and Myanmar have kept the world up-to-date on repression in their countries through blogs. The blogs were frequently reprinted in the world press and reported on the International news.

If you would like to blog for free, search Google for ‘free blogs’ and take a look around. There are dozens of free blog sites about and they all offer different functions. Blogger by Google is one of the better ones, but there really are loads of different types of free blogs.

One consideration is whether you want your blog to be open or closed. That is, do you want anyone to be able to read it or do you want only a closed user group (CUG), which could include your friends, your family or your colleagues.

It should not take longer that thirty minutes to set up your blog. Some providers like to approve new blogs, but others do not. You could be blogging within the hour, so compose an piece welcoming people to your blog and post it to the blog. Make it ’sticky’ if you can, so that it is always the first post that visitors read when they arrive at your blog.

Make your posts informative and attempt to keep them topical. They should neither be so short that it is not worth coming to read them nor so long that they get boring – 400 to 500 is judged to be about right.

You will have to advertise your blog or no-one will know that it is there. Do this by posting your articles (with your blog address affixed) to a couple of article directories. It is free and will give your blog a real boost in circulation. You can give up doing this when your blog is self-sustaining.

Allow all visitors to make comments on the blog, because it encourages people to come back, but check frequently for spam comments and delete them because a blog full of spam looks neglected.

How to spot a phony Krugerrand gold coin

If you’ve been giving some thought to making an investment in gold Krugerrands, the gold bullion coin of South Africa, then it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the coin. In particular, you’ll want to be able to spot a fake Krugerrand. Luckily, this is something that virtually anybody can do when armed with the right knowledge.

The simplest way to avoid purchasing a phony is to deal only with an experienced vendor, especially a coin dealer who has a specialization in Krugerrands. These dealers will have been dealing with this sort of coin for many years, so they can easily notice when a certain coin doesn’t have the correct hue or weight. Furthermore, respected coin dealers will be concerned about their reputations, so they will have an incentive to make sure they are only offering genuine coins.

While that’s one way to go, remember that it’s also relatively easy to confirm the genuineness of a Krugerrand all by yourself. Standards have been made public by the South African Mint, and you can easily see how your coin compares to these standards. In addition, you need to know that gold is a special metal. Particularly, it has a very high density, much higher than other commonly available metals. In case you do find a bogus coin made out of one of these lesser metals, the weight differential will be fairly obvious with some experience. Also, keep in mind the fact that the metals that are as dense as gold are either pretty hard to acquire, quite costly, or quite brittle. All of this is in your advantage when attempting to spot a phony coin.

When it comes to physical properties, this is what you want to look out for: a one-ounce Krugerrand has a weight of 33.930g, a diameter of 32.77mm, a thickness of 2.84m, and 160 serrations along the edge. A half-ounce coin carries a weight of 16.965g, a diameter of 27.07mm, a thickness of 2.215mm, and 185 serrations. A quarter-ounce coin has a weight of 8.482g, a diameter of 22.06mm, a thickness of 1.888mm, and 150 serrations. And finally, a tenth-ounce coin carries a weight of 3.393g, a diameter of 16.55mm, a thickness of 1.35mm, and 115 serrations.

To carry out these tests, you will want fine-grained ruler with markings in millimeters as well as an accurate scale able to make weight measurements in grams. As a substitute, there is a very convenient device called the Fisch Tester that is able to test all of these things for you. It has a coin-shaped recess used for checking shape, a slot for checking diameter and thickness, and a fulcrum to check a coin’s weight. The Fisch Tester will save you lots of time and can make it much easier for you to detect a fake coin. Just be careful about buying a Fisch on eBay because, in a twist of irony, there have been reports of imitation Fisch Testers being sold there. To be safe, you may want to buy directly from Fisch.

Armed with this new knowledge, you should now have the capability to identify a bogus Krugerrand by yourself. Good luck in your investments in gold!

If you want to invest in gold coins, you should really take the time to learn how to spot a fake Krugerrand. The test is easy enough that virtually anybody can do it, and it will help protect you and your gold.
