Further Uses for the Indoor Bug Zapper
I don’t know whether you have ever used a handheld, indoor bug zapper, but I think that they are marvelous. I?m talking about the handheld type that looks like a child’s plastic, toy tennis racquet. They come in two basic kinds. I prefer the rechargeable bug zapper, because batteries end up up costing more than the indoor bug zapper itself, although you could always buy rechargeable batteries, but then they are dear as well.
My wife and I like to spend time in the garden. We meet friends there, dine there and in general loaf about outdoors, as do most folks around here, when they are not working. Besides, it’s far cooler outside than indoors. A comfy chair, some snacks, a cool drink and a book or a friend and life does not get much better. In fact, it?s idyllic.
That is until about six or seven o’clock when the first wave of mosquitoes have judged that the sun’s rays have lost enough strength that they will not evaporate and they come out looking for blood. Some evenings are worse than others, of course. Usually, the mosquitoes are pretty bearable, particularly since I have discovered the indoor bug zapper. (I don’t know why it is referred to as an ‘indoor bug zapper’, it is equally as effective outdoors as in)..
It’s not that I want to kill things, but I find it difficult to have sympathy for mosquitoes. Nevertheless, I do get a certain amount of enjoyment from seeing and hearing mosquitoes and other bugs literally blow up with a flash and a spark as they come into contact with the electric and ground wires of the indoor bug zapper. These electric bug zappers are capable of packing quite a charge, especially if the batteries are new or the pack is wholly charged.
The other day, I discovered a novel use for my handheld, indoor bug zapper. I’ll tell you how it came about. I was in the garden, as usual, and my bug zapper was close at hand as the first squadron of mosquitoes was due. I had my book in one hand and the bug zapper on my knees, when my wife asked me to go to the shop for her. No problem, so, I set off on the five minute walk.
I was half-way there when I noticed that I had the indoor bug zapper in my hand, but it was not worth taking it home and beginning the journey again. Anyhow, on my return journey, I had my small bag of groceries in one hand and the indoor bug zapper in the other, when a local tyrant of a dog came running out of a garden directly for me. This has happened often and, although he has never bitten me yet, it is rather menacing. He stood there glaring at me with teeth bared and his ‘pack’ of assorted local pals came out to encircle me and join in.
I don’t really know what the best course of action is in this situation. I have tried holding my ground, but the intimidation just goes on and I have tried to keep walking, but he gets worryingly close by on occasion. This time, I unexpectedly lashed out with the indoor bug zapper and just caught him on the snout. Well, I’m not sure whether it hurt him, it did not seem to too much, but it gave him a very nasty shock in more ways than one, I can tell you! He leaped about four feet into the air as if he were on a pogo stick and then ran for all he was worth with all his pals following him. It was very gratifying after six months of aggravation from this dog.
Anyway, I don’t take my indoor bug zapper everywhere with me, but I will in future, if any more local dogs bother me. I know it works a treat. I have seen that one since, but he keeps far away from me and doesn’t utter a sound. I think I would take my indoor bug zapper with me, if I were wandering in an unknown part of town or the park nevertheless.

Blood Pressure Control Is Just Good Health Control
If you have been informed that your blood pressure is too high (that is, that you have hypertension), then what you were actually being told was that your lifestyle is not especially healthy. This is because, unless your hypertension has come about because of ethnicity, age, sleeplessness or medication, you are doing something wrong in your daily life.
Blood pressure control for most individuals means initiating lifestyle changes for the better or taking tablets for life. If you have hypertension but you cannot go to see your GP as frequently as you would like, you could always buy a home blood pressure monitor and keep tabs on your blood pressure yourself.
The best sort to get is an automatic digital monitor with a self-inflating cuff. It should also have a pulse monitor and a number of memories, although you can always use good old-fashioned pen and paper. They are not costly any more and ought to cost between $30 and $100.
Some have a lifetime guarantee and are as accurate as your GP’s sphygmomanometer, which is the gold standard of blood pressure monitors. You should take your readings at the same time every day (or two or three times a day at the same times) and keep a record of it or them. In this fashion you can compare your progress (or lack of it).
The first thing to do is give up smoking (if you smoke, obviously) and then cut down on heavy drinking sessions, if you do that). Doing that will improve your general health whether you have high blood pressure or not.
The next thing to do is to reduce your weight, if you are overweight by dieting and exercise. If you are not overweight, you will still need to raise your level of exercise and change your diet for the following reasons. Exercise decreases your blood pressure and too much salt (also called sodium) will increase your blood pressure.
So, whichever way you look at it, you will need to exercise more and take on a low-sodium diet. One of the methods of reducing sodium in your diet is by eating fresh fruit and vegetables and stop eating canned and other fast foods, which are stuffed with salt.
These lifestyle alterations are not easy, so if you have to take some of them on board, consider getting help. For instance, you could use patches to help you stop smoking. You could visit the pub less frequently or simply go there later in the evening. You could ask your spouse to go on the diet too or you could join a support group on or off line.
There really are lots of resources out there to help you circumvent hypertension, but if you just cannot be bothered, then nip along to your doctor’s and get your first batch or high blood pressure tablets and be sure to create a repeat appointment, because you will be going back and forth for the rest of your life.

Day Trading – Is It A Good Idea Or Not?
In the current climate of extreme financial austerity and vicious cut-backs, people are naturally searching for methods of supplementing their income. It is difficult enough for those who relied on overtime that no longer exists, but it is even harder on those who have lost their jobs. There are two main avenues that people are investigating.
These are: setting up an off line business within their own sphere of expertise and attempting to make money on line. Within the ‘making money on line’ route, there are three main possibilities that people are turning to: affiliate marketing; the stock exchange and Forex (foreign exchange markets).
In this piece, I would like to take a closer look at trading stocks and shares on line and in particular, day trading, which is the buying ang selling of stocks and shares within a twenty-four hour period or even within the same trading session. Some traders extend the period to mean a week, but to me ‘day trading’ represents a day.
Trading stocks and shares, let’s simply cal it trading shares from now on, can be a lucrative way of earning money, but as everyone knows, there is not actually any such thing as ‘easy money’. It is not the trading per se that is a problem – far from it, brokers have made it very easy for individuals to trade on line.
Input ‘trading shares’ into Google and you will get inundated with opportunities for trading on line at a few clicks of a mouse. There is little to choose between the brokers, so it is best if you can decide on one that operates in your country so that you understand the laws regulating it, unless you would like to trade in the shares of a country not normally covered by brokers in your country.
Once you have chosen your broker and funded your account the excitement, and the danger, begins. The risk of losing your money, that is.
You see, when just rich people traded shares, they usually paid a stock broker to do it for them. There still are such institutions – many of them, going under different names, like mutual funds and investment trusts and there are also stock brokers who have a select clientele, but we are not talking about those.
The majority of day trading is done either by top traders or by working class individuals. The professionals mostly work for huge companies like pension funds and the like with masses of information, whereas the majority of individuals who engage in day trading do so at their computers at home
Under standard conditions, people or companies, purchase shares because they think that they can see a long term up-turn in that company’s or that sectors future. This takes knowledge – not insider-knowledge, but a deep understanding of what is going on in that company or that market. This is subject to error, naturally, but if you are in for the medium term, say a year or more, things could change in your favour, if you have the time frame a little wrong.
If you are day trading, you do not have the luxury of time.
As a child, I once bought 50 1946 English farthings, because a coin dealer told me that he would pay a pound each for them, if |only he could find some. I knew someone who had a hundred at forty pence. I day traded and made some money.
The purpose of the story is, how do you acquire that knowledge? Well, it is not simple. It takes dedication. It takes research and it takes work otherwise it is only gambling and most gamblers lose.
Day trading is the hardest form of trading in shares and no serious trader would recommend it to anyone. However, it can realize instant profits and of course, it can tie your money up, if you have taken a wrong decision and have to wait for the correct time to sell.
Day trading is very risky and not for the faint of heart.

A Short History Of Akoya Pearls
Pearls were one of the first natural gems ever to be discovered. Their simple elegance has made them a sought after jewelry staple for centuries. Pearls are created naturally inside of oysters, but can take years to fully form. In the early 1900’s however, a way was discovered to cultivate and harvest these beautiful gems using akoya oysters. Once this process was perfected, cultured akoya pearls quickly became one of the most popular and lustrous pearls available.
Wild naturally occurring pearls, and cultured pearls are actually formed in the very same way. A pearl will be produced within an oyster, if a small object such as a grain of sand becomes entrapped within its shell. The oyster responds by forming a small cyst around this foreign object. The cyst in then slowly filled with a milky white substance know as nacre. Over time, the nacre forms smooth layers which become the actual pearl itself.
Before pearl culturing began, pearls were found simply by chance. In the early 1900’s a man by the name of Kokichi Mikimoto changed all that. Through much experimentation, he discovered a process by which he could predictably cause the formation of a pearl.
Mr. Mikimoto’s technique involved the careful opening of a live oyster. He would then insert a small round piece of shell within the body of the oyster. The oyster would then be placed back within the ocean the natural response of nacre secretion would begin. This process of manually inserting a small piece of shell within the oyster is called nucleation.
As the culturing process continued to be perfected, it was discovered that a specific species of oyster know as the akoya oyster produced the best quality cultured pearls. The akoya oyster is found naturally near the southern coast of Japan. Pearl farmers now raise these oysters in hatcheries so that all of the aspects of their growth and habitat can be carefully monitored.
It takes about 10 to 18 months for a cultured pearl to fully form within an oyster. The culturing process itself however is not always successful. Oysters can be very fragile creatures. Many times, the oyster does not even survive the process of nucleation. However, once successful, the end result can be well worth the wait.
Of all of the cultured pearls, akoya pearls are believed to have the highest luster. Many think this may be due to the climate where the akoya oyster is found. The oceans surrounding the coast of Japan are typically 10 to 15 degrees cooler than other areas where oysters are farmed. These lower temperatures could possibly slow down the nacre production which causes the pearl itself to be more compact in form. The surface of the gem thus appears more lustrous.
Almost all of the pearls on the market now are of the cultured variety. Given the natural beauty and quality of these pearls, it is easy to see why they have become such a popular choice.
